Number / 数字 + mét
The classifier for chili is "mét". Restaurants often ask how many chilies you want. You can just answer with a number, or say "no chili at all" to be safe.
| ภาษาไทย | How to read / 読み方 | Meaning | 意味 | Used for... |
The substance that causes spiciness is capsaicin, which dissolves well in fat but not in water. So plain water helps very little (sometimes it just spreads the spiciness around the mouth more). Milk, yogurt, sugar, and plain rice work much better.
Thai "standard spicy" is calibrated for Thai tolerance, always ask for the mildest option upfront if unsure.
